Subject: Don't add sugar
This gig was action packed; for the second show in a row there was a nice original:cover ratio. I feel like the band's playing on this night really testifies to the value of a soundman and paying attention to the monitor mix. The jams were never overcrowded and pockets opened up thoughout the night. Green Tea offered us a nice Marty triumvirate ("Doghouse", "Fire Ants", "Whiskey Town"). Shakedown again proved that the band can stretch out a tune and jam it just as much as the original artist. 2nd set the Bird flew into town and hatched a nice jam; listen closely for Jamie licking Bob Marley (6:35), Toby licking "China Cat Sunflower" (8:40) and a (similar to) "When the Saints Come Marching In" tease at 11:15. Headspace was played for the 2nd time in this lineup and although it is scaborous in spots it does offer a genuine sip of nostalgia. 2nd set features several of current covers & they are well played and the choices are unconventional enough that they seem to conceived by the band. The "tea" is piping hott right now and there is no need to add sugar because it is already Sweeeeet!!!
